Jean Rouaux, 22, decides to cycle from Chamonix to climb Ama Dablam in Nepal. A long journey of solitude, effort, and self-improvement.
In 1996, Goran Kropp cycled from Sweden to Everest before climbing it completely unaccompanied. Twenty-eight years later, 22-year-old Jean Rouaux has taken up the torch in his own way. His goal: Ama Dablam, in the heart of Nepal. His starting point: Chamonix. 11,500 km by bike, 80,000 meters of elevation gain. A long journey of solitude, effort, and self-improvement. What if the adventure wasn’t so much in the summit… as in the journey to reach it?
11500km, 70 days, 200km by day on average.

My name is John. I’m 22 years old. I work as a climbing instructor. My initial plan was to cycle from home from Shaman to go all the way to Nepal. Day one of cycling from Shamini to Nepal to climb the Amadam and once there my plan was to hike all the way from Katmandu to Amadablam base camp. I’m unstoppable. I will get there and then to climb that mountain. Day 60 of cycling from Shamani to Nepal to climb the first one. They laughed a bit like there’s no way, man. But I think I will. There’s a good chance I will. Maybe I won’t be able to climb that mountain. Don’t know. It’s huge. Really impressive. Day 68 of cycling from Shaman to Nepar. [Music]
