The final stage of tour to Hungary was always going to be exciting with small GC gaps separating uh the small Harold Martin Lopez against the explosive Aleandro Kovi with the finish in Esto starting in Edek. And it’s a punchy circuit including a cobbled last kilometer and then an uphill sprint. Two sprints where bonus seconds are given to uh at the beginning uh one at the beginning and two near the finish. So with Lopez only about 6 or 7 seconds ahead of Kovi and 10 seconds ahead of Albert Phillipsson, it was really tricky for him today, especially when Philipsson straight away took 3 seconds back at that first intermediate sprint. Kovi couldn’t take any and the little trek lead out. I thought this was them leading out Philips. Philipsson’s the guy who led it out the whole time. Kish did the lead out and then Toyenberg’s actually behind Philipsson taking away the other seconds. Aana didn’t do a good enough job with Malachelli and Siritza to take away those seconds. So, Philipsson taking 3 seconds back both on Kovi and Lopez and that was just the beginning. Although it settled down now through the harder hill zone, there were no bonus sprints there. Might have been cool to have them at the GPM points, but anyway, the breakaway was under control 2 minutes. There were some splits in the Pelon Ras coming back. The clerk was managing things when he came back with 64ks to go and they were wanting to lock this stage down. not really for Titenberg, but also you you want to put the bonus seconds in play if you’re not leading GC. You want to put them in play so anything can happen. And also, this finish is not that good for Lopez. As I said, compared to the explosive Philipsson and Kovi, but Lopez does have a good and committed team around him. He’s got Seritzer as his bodyguard all day and he’s pretty good in the bunch and he knows how to ride a GC. So, Estano were not going through the stage at all today. They use Malachelli to take away seconds. Feta goes in the middle trying to get across the breakaway. UAE and Trek as I said in a somewhat thinned out Pelaton are trying to put those seconds back in play not just at the finish but also in the uh the the two intermediate sprints before the finish, but they’re not able to do that. The breakaway is able to take away first the second of those intermediate sprints. They take away all the seconds I think. So Kovi and Philipsson aren’t able to sprint for them. Then the last one, Kovi does go for it, but there’s still a breakaway up the road. So, there’s only one second, I think, on offer. And Kovi, yeah, he does sprint for that. Evo Olivivera let the wheel go. Sera gets in the middle. Oliver should have flicked uh Harold Martin Lopez. I think he does and makes him close it back to Seritza. So, Seritza, yeah, he wasn’t able to beat Kobe for the second, but that second won’t matter as long as Kobe doesn’t win at the finish, but still looking thinned out. Jacob still have Coron there. They do a recon of the finish a few times, but they they didn’t turn right. They go right at that just after that sprint point to go up to the finish in front of it. It’s beautiful building actually. So, really nice finish. Uh I don’t remember this before from Tour to Hungary. Maybe I missed it, but yeah, this is actually a very very attractive finish. Bahrain try to anticipate Luke Deridge in the Australian National Champs jersey is closing that down for Jacula. They won with Dylan Kronovagen. They won another one. And here is that hobbled uh entry with on khaline and a trooer just being caught with just under the flam rouge. Pretty much Jacob rattle through the pave through the narrow buildings in the street. This is almost fiat panda territory and they go straight past the two guys in the breakaway. And if you’re not in position here, you’re going to have a tough time moving up with the leadups beginning. Donny Popples in the green jersey, second wheel. UA cluster of three riders with Kobe the third of them. Gronovan’s got a man in front of him. He looks good in this position here. Gronovan, he’s got me gets there. It’s looking fine, but in these corners, he gets all bent out of shape. He gets on the wrong side of Kovi, who also just lets the gap open. He he begins to slide himself through the group through these corners. Titenberg, he loses the wheel there, and that’s a big problem for him. He’s now on a gap when I think the Jacula rider gets in front of him. Mez gets and then he drops the wheel later. So Evo Oliva is the MVP of this lead out. He goes in front of Jacob through these corners. Van Paul in position. Milano third with the corners with the uphill. He spanks it. Kovi is then in front of Renov and he drops the wheel. But also for Lopez that’s fine. If if he’s not competitive for the finish Kovi, which he wasn’t, maybe they were trying to do that UA. I don’t think so because it wasn’t really really realistic. You see Kovi completely dropping the wheel here and Evo Olivera smashing it. UA obviously accepted just the GC podium and we’re going for Milano victory. Olivea, I mean he’s done such a good job this week as the lead out with uh his brother out of the race. Pretty much the sole guy in the final 2ks for Milano and to put him in this good a position to make sure he’s staying on the wheel to recheck over and over. He’s there. Yep. And to maintain the front for this long basically ruin everybody Copeki Gronovan they’re all out of it. Toenberg was you know he spent his bullet coming back to them. So so impressive from Olivivera. I mean look how long he’s gone. It’s still I thought Van Paba was going to undercut him but he couldn’t into the last corner and then finally this week when he’s been able to sprint in clear air for the first time once Sebastian Milano wins. I mean he probably could have won another stage or two. I think he was the fastest at least more versatile than Coron. He could have won two stages but today yeah Olivera bosa and when he got clear air Milano today from the draft of Van Pppppel he was able to get a deserved victory. So yeah, really nice finish in the sunshine. Uh Van Poppa was good all week positioning himself really, really impressive. Think he takes the points jersey. But Harold Martin Lopez, he impressed me too. Look at this finish. Technical pave uphill sprint corners. He finishes on the wheel of Kovi. Basically 12th or 13th in this sprint. I don’t know where Philips was. That’s Titenberg, the track rider. Yeah, look where Lopez is. He finished behind Kov and them. And he gives Look at his little fist bump. Little fist bump over the line securing GC. Very very impressive. Uh he I think the best GC result of his career so far. But Milan wins ahead of Toyenberg. Evo Ala Capeek is very good in positioning actually for Novo Nordisk always in position. Gonzalez Hers Deilda Nicolar and Kovi. Here is what Milan had to say. Oh the states also is very very hard. Uh this three pass in the in the climb in the in the start in the circuit is really really hard. But today I have a really good legs also the climb also now in the in the final circuit and I speak with the team. Uh I try to the bonus second for Kobe but uh it’s it’s impossible. No. What was the tactic on the on the final final sprint? Um it was more for the stage win with you or or you tried something with with Kobe for the for the GC? H two these two but uh today the the more important uh is uh take the the the climb no in the the final the three 300 m to go is this is more important uh put in position because after the the last corner is 150 50 m is it’s impossible passing no and uh Evos start to to 300 m and it’s really really good work, good world work and uh and nothing. Thank you for my team. Thank you uh Andre Thomas and uh all the stuff in terms of GC Harold Martin Lopez takes home the uh the champagne. He wins ahead of Kovi Phillips in third and amigga seven and 10 seconds and Hayek Castelon Novak Fela I King Barare and Van Hawker. But I hope you enjoyed these tour to Hungary recaps. I start to keep taking the UCI points. I’m going to do a tour of Turkey recap this week and talk a bit more about those UCI points.

Great recap! Would have loved to hear your analysis of the Giro stage today. Interesting developments there 😅
Kudos forappropriate pronounciation of names of stars/finish towns, Patrick.
(building at the finish line is Esztergomi Bazilika – catholic church)
Too bad you’re not covering the giro
Congrats Harold Martin Lopez!
Hi im from Esztergom. I was one of the students holding the TDH sign
Philipsen? For a second I thought you were talking about that dirty Jasper P.
Thx for the recap. I was watching Giro d'Italia.
What a great parcours. That finishing circuit and sprint are top class.
Hotline 🔥🔥
I have to pay to watch youtube stuff. Sell outs.
The nice building is the Esztergom cathedral, a coronation place of our first Christian king St Stephan, among others. Unfortunately, the downtown is a mix of old and modern buildings and the roads around are generally crap and busy, but still a spectacular spot – there's a bridge over the Danube to Slovakia that you can walk across.
Tour de Hongrie has been very lucky with the weather, we had rains for weeks now but they seemed to avoid most of them.
top recaps of "Ungarnrundfahrt"
Did anyone else catch the perfectly placed, perfectly sculpted mustache 0:27?
Van poppel has just been maturing well over the years
Sorry for asking it on this video but don't know where else. Is there a reason you aren't doing Giro hightlights? I loved your TdF and Vuelta highlights more than any other highlights by professional media companies last year.
