i was trying to replace cables on my r7000 shifter.
it was going all right. cable was properly seated when i popped the hood, clamped the cable on the rear derailleur shifted a few times and something felt off. shifter was now stuck, when to check and the cable end somehow slipped out of the stop and now is stuck in there, any advice on what can i do or did i just sent my shifter in the bin?

This is nothing to panic about, get yourself a set of small picks and carefully take your time hooking it out without damaging the shifter.

  2. Seems to me like you can simply undo the cable from the derailleur and then you can push the cable out of the sti

  3. From pics, all I know for sure is that the head of the cable is now in the bowels of the shifter. Here’s what I’d do:

    1. Unbolt the cable from the rear derailleur and remove the cable from the housing where it connects to the shifter. Now you have full access to the cable itself. It also eliminates the cable tension which may be locking the shift levers in place.

    2. Position your shifter hood so that it’s not dragging too much on the bare cable.

    3. Grasp the cable about 1 or 2 cm from where it exits the shifter. Now push the bare cable into the shifter using a good amount of force, but not so much that you kink or damage the cable. At the same time, try working the shifter levers to find a position where the cable head can come loose. Do this back and forth, using your judgement. You’re basically trying to dislodge the head of the cable from whatever is trapping it.

If you’re very lucky, the entire cable head will come out and you’re good to do. If you’re moderately lucky, you’ll dislodge the cable head to a position where you can force it out with a pick or needlenose pliers. But there’s a good chance you’re fucked; in that case, just bring it to a bike shop and seek help.

Remove the rubber hood cover, you might find there is a plastic cover you can remove to improve access, there is on the 5800 shifters
