Hi!
I recently purchased a 2018 Shiv Expert TT bike from a seller on FB marketplace.
I attempted to get a bike fit for it but it didn’t quite pass the safety check. They said that the bike isn’t raceable for an Ironman due to the damage on the rear dropout of the bike. They said that the risk of the rear wheel popping out during a race is high.
I brought it up with the seller and he believes it to be fine and will gladly take the bike back, if I want to return it.
The bike does have alot of indoor training usage and they state that the damage on the rear dropout was due to using a frame mounted trainer, which Specialized does not recommend for bikes before 2020.
May I get your opinion on the rear dropout ?

It’s fine till it ain’t
Return it! That’s not safe.
Yeah that’s a no from me dawg.
Indoor only frame, or send it back to the seller, I wouldn’t risk it.
I know nothing about triathalons. But, if the bike shop tells you it’s not safe and the seller is nice enough to take the bike back, then I would return the bike.
Hell no. There is cracking going up into the triangle.
This is torched. Get your money back. If you’re worried about having a bike for a race soon this is a great option… If you want to dnf and pay for an ambulance ride. Even if this makes it to and through a race, you’re riding a frame manufacturer warranty would ask a shop to destroy. Invest your money elsewhere.
Triathletes lack of bike knowledge is endless entertainment. And also great for billable hours. This bike is safe enough for a trainer but I would not spend money on it.
Indoor only bike at best 😔
You could look into a carbon repair shop. But might not be worth the cost.
As everyone else has said don’t ride it.
It looks bad, I wouldn’t ride it. But I would use it on a indoor trainer.
