Hi,

Straight to the point, which of these 2 bike options would you pick for city use?

CTY 1.1 Bike (https://www.rei.com/product/197842/co-op-cycles-cty-11-bike) it's currently on sale for $480

PRIORITY CLASSIC PLUS – GOTHAM EDITION (https://www.prioritybicycles.com/products/thegotham) $599

  1. I live in Chicago, so no hills/elevation
  2. I primarily use bikes for running errands, sometimes going to work if weather is nice and I have some extra time, going to the lake. So it will be mostly pavement biking in a ~5 mile radius.
  3. I'm 6 feet, 170lbs
  4. Weight is an important feature for me, it has to be lightweight

I've found mixed opinions about both.

Which one would you recommend? Or if you have any other recommendations at that price point, I would really appreciate it!

  1. If it were me, I’d choose #1. Largely because of the drivetrain, but also my dislike of cheap rim brakes in the rain.

Finding parts will be simple, the knowledge you gain from maintaining it will transfer to future bikes, and every bike shop will be able to help you. When you choose the exciting newer belt technology that hasn’t been widely adopted, your potential gain might be biased by how cool it looks and a very slim chance that the tech is actually better. The risk and likely outcome is that this technology hasn’t been widely adopted because it’s simply not a significant enough improvement for the downsides.

Definitely the REI bike. The belt drive on the priority bike is cool, but the rest of the components are sub-par in comparison
