I am not all that informed on bmx History. But without any founders and without the guys who put down the first steps to open the doors of whats possible at the start, all of todays bmx wouldnt exist. Yes its cool that he is pushing the limit, and maybe in the future we will see even more crazy riders like him. But with the internet hype he has, more people then ever are able to see his stuff. Thats a big deal.

But for me as a “street” bmx rider, r willy doesnt really excite me all that much. Yea its crazy, but I take a stylish ledge combo all day..but that may just be me

Why do they keep comparing him to Dave Mirra? Doing scooter tricks on resi is fine if you like that sorta thing but there will never be another Mirra.

You are not insane. I respect both of them but Mirras legacy will always be monumental, regardless of what any later gen rider does.

  4. Landing on resi ramps for shitro circus, while entertaining, doesn’t count. Sure it’s impressive in its own way, but I doubt many would include RW in their top 10 of all time, possibly not even top 25.

Namecheck Hoffman when you have an injury/surgery list as long as a fuckin resi ramp all in the name of “I love bmx” not “bmx loves me”

  6. Commenters are going to comment, if he has any humility (which I expect he does) I’m sure he would be embarrassed by the sentiment of those in the screenshots.

Eh, Hoffman and Mirra would like a word. I’m a fan of RW but that’s a whack take.

  8. Willy’s done a lot- but he’s in a VERY specific discipline that 99/100 riders will never see. He sends the huge trick. When you talk about overall progression of the sport- the first grind, the flair, etc etc- the list is longer than Ryan.

I think Mirra, De La Rosa, Hoffman, etc are very influential. R Willy may be a modern influential rider because of the crazy tricks he does. Let’s be glad that we had, have and will have different riders doing their thing. Respect to old, middle, new school. Without Ryan maybe BMX market would be in a more difficult spot right now so he is kinda influential I think

This reminds me of when Adam LZ tried to say the same things about himself on Instagram years ago and got absolutely obliterated by Shean Burns (and everyone else commenting lol)
