Working towards this as a goal of mine, would love to lose weight and save money, my commute is mostly flat and around 8 miles one way, anybody else commute to work?
I do 7 miles each way. Definitely doable and you’ll get in great shape. Enjoy!

I’ve road 6 on a BMX before I had a fixed. 8 should be pretty doable, keep it a slow pace so ya don’t get too sweaty and enjoy the fresh air!

If its a flat i believe is totally doable, maybe thwe first month can be harder if youre not used to ride that distance, but after a momth you should be fine, maybe start doing it 2-3 times a week.

I started doing 9miles one way every 2 days as a commute to work with my first fixie this year, if you already have some decent cardio it is doable, but I’d recommend bringing a spare shirt and some strong deodorant for the day. If you’re completely new to cardio training, you might wanna start with a lower distance first

That depends entirely on the rider and the route. Try it out on a day you are not working and see how it goes.

Absolutely doable. Unless there are steep hills i find riding a fixie easier (when you have a gear ratio that works well) just get on it and pedal.

Why im crying whyyyyy do they drive those why not a road bike

Yes, 16 miles round trip isn’t bad at all. You’ll sleep well every night!

6 miles each way in NYC. You’ll be surprised at how quickly your cardio kicks into gear. Stick to it for 2-3 weeks and it’ll be no problem.

Super manageable you got this

I do 20 kilometres / 12.4 miles each day, each way. So… yes. And my fixed is nearly always the better, more efficient, easier bike to ride (outside of bad headwinds).

Hell yeah. If I can, you def can.

9 miles each way here in atlanta (which is relatively hilly) .. i only have to go in 2 or 3 days a week, so, I never had to do it 5 days a week .. but id say very doable .. i love the bullhorns, btw .. im about to switch to those.

I do 8 to work, a bit more on my way back, sadly no weight loss at all.

Definitely, you’ll get in great shape too. The biggest issue I had when biking to work (about 5 miles each way) was getting super sweaty in hot weather. Might need to pack a change of clothes for that reason.

What’s keeping you from just doing it?

Yes. I find myself wishing my commute was longer!

I’m definitely out of shape and overweight, but I managed to do 5 miles each way for a short time without dying. If I had gotten in better shape adding a few miles would be nbd.
I will say it really sucked if I was running late. It’s a lot harder to pace yourself on a single speed

I’ve been doing 7.5 mile sprints in the morning for exercise, takes me around 22-25 minutes depending on the traffic lights.

No problem at all. I commute fixed 13 miles each way. You get used to it

I did my route which was 7 miles in Seattle. After the 1st week I switched over to my 7 speed. There was nothing but hill after hill after hill that it wasn’t doable. At least for now. But it’s absolutely doable!

Yes i used to do that, mind I had front and rear brakes too, felt safer in traffic. Go for it.

I did 7 each way in city traffic and it was definitely doable.

I don’t start questioning distance until the 20 mile mark

I ride from east LA to West Hollywood everyday fixed. About 40 mins. 11 miles one way. So yes definitely doable.

Depends on where, I had a similar commute in Chicago, but is it flat here.

Absolutely, I do 10 miles each way in a hilly desert

Are you squeezed in the shoulder on busy roads with relatively high speeds limits? The problem isn’t you or anything you can control. Everytime i almost die it’s because of some headass riding against traffic on an e-bike
whatevers_cleaver_ on
Very realistic.
You’ll probably be doing it in fewer than 40 minutes pretty quickly.
