[Music] What a stage at the Jill Italia. Stage eight of the 2025 edition proved to be something remarkably special. One that will live long in the memory. The talk before the stage that it will be one for the breakaway. But GC riders inclusu in the white jersey now looking to do something different perhaps. Roglitch had pink. Did he really want it though? The stage would begin in Julanova just about in the north of Abbruto before crossing into the Marqu where the majority of the stage would take place. It was up and down all day, 197 km in total. 3,800 m of climbing, finishing in Castell Rayondo, an habitual finishing place for Ten Adriatico. This stage a wink to that spring race. A very late Red Bull kilometer offering bonus seconds too. This promised to be a big one and you could see it straight from the start. A flag wave and an attack from XDSA. It will be the first of many attacks from many teams. Mass Pearson would be one of those riders in the Malia Clamino. This was the start of his Jirro 2.0 and after 50ks he was still away. A couple of others riders were with him, including Depto and Katano, but they’d be caught with 145 km to go, but still no decision as to who might go in the breakaway. After a relatively flat start, it was to the hills and mountains, and that would change the profile of Ryder who could get up the road. The fighting continued up the various climbs. Pictures squares, no time to admire them. Italy always a beautiful canvas for this race to play out on and it was one of the young Italian favorites who’s now grown into a proper grand tour rider. Lorenzo Fortonato, a former stage winner and now king of the mountains holder who’d be out there trying to get the big points. He was part of a big group that started to take time and a minute. It looked as though the break had gone with 107 km to go. But it was a big break. It was taking time. Red Bull Bora Hansro were pretty happy with it. A few riders up the row meant there might be an opportunity to give away the Maya Roza. The best place was Fortonato himself. He’d take King of the Mountains points at the top of Sasotto with Roman Bald taking second. Fortonato adding to his already considerable lead in the competition. Over the top they go and they’d open up a gap. Other riders coming across to close them. Was this the genesis of a winning move? The group at around 20 riders was probably too big to go all the way on its own and the selections were being made a long way from the finish. Igoretta was another big man in it. He’d helped to chase the group down. Luke Platt was there as well. Dylan Fbala, Gilg Steinhauser and Platt would be the man to go at 70ks to go with Steinhauser on his wheel. the Maya Rosa group at over five minutes. The stage was surely going to the breakaway. But which member of the breakaway? That was always the question. Wilco Kellerman came across to the move, a man who’d never won on the world tour despite having won the Mayara. Looking for his first road race win of his career. It was panic behind though. 1 minute 15 and growing. Had the move gone. Seven riders at the front. Hman Bald had also made it across a day after losing contact with the general classification after a crash and then it started to split again. Kellerman and Diego Ulissi, another of those riders close to the Mayar Roza with 51ks to go. Steinaza made his move too. Arieta went with him. Luke Platt was biting his time and behind there was problems maybe for the Mayar Roza with Bahrain victorious contributing and the gap started to come down. There was another effort from Pl. And the way he went across was incredible. No sooner had he got there, he was on the move again. A big big acceleration with 45 km to go over the penultimate climb of the day. This was a big power push. Big ring, big watts and a big advantage soon. 34 seconds to Steinhauser a few kilometers later. Steinhauser was less behind. Keelerman, Arieta, and Olyi were still chasing. And in the Pelatin, there was still the doubt as to whether Fortunato or Olyi were going to be given the opportunity to become the first Italian to wear the Malar Roa in four seasons. They stood at almost 3 minutes and just over four minutes respectively back. UAE had taken it up at the front as well. Plap continued to ride away. He needed water though. He needed a bit more. Fueling so important, but he was managing. The team car finally across the gap. The gap almost a minute. Aretta had taken off, leaving those behind, but he was soon to be caught with Red Bull again controlling the gap nicely. In group two, it looked as though the stage winner had gone. Ori was trying to coax Arieta back into Ryden and he was riding of course for time. Pigpock, however, kicking it off in the main group. Platt looking like he’d taken the stage, but the nerves were jangling for Xiaastan. Could they take the Mayara? They needed around 4 minutes of a gap. Platt though on his way to the final kilometer and after a day without sessation of hostilities, Platt coming out on top. A first ever Grand Tour stage win, a first big win in Europe. Luke Plap taking the 21st stage win for JCO Alula down the years and himself really coming of age. Second for Kellerman, third for OI. That meant four bonus seconds. Could he now take the Malar Roza? The count was on behind as Platt received congratulations waited. Huana Yuso took off trying to force a gap. A gap he forced to take a single second back on Rogich who was now three in front. And with the Pelatin coming in almost 5 minutes down. It was celebration day. Ulissi ending the Italian Odyssey. Four years without the Mayar Roza, the longest drought for the host nation. And a Tuscan man who’ll be wearing the Mayad Roza in Tuscanyany on stage 9. An Australian though celebrating victory for the second time this judo after Kaden Groves. It’s now Luke Platt. What a win. And what a day of entertainment. [Music] Flatt finally getting his moment in front of the watching public in Castell Raondo. A day he will never ever forget. In the general classification, it’s a one-two for Xia Sastana. Primoic still the best of the main GC contenders, but seeing his lead cut by a second. And on the GC podium in the Maya towards the end of his career now, Diego Ulissi having won eight stages now finally wears the coveted pink jersey. He’s the first Italian since Aleandro de Marquei in 2021. And he will wear it riding home into his native Tuscanany. Past the lake and over the border into Tuskanyany into the hills its famous hills and to the famous white roads. It’s a Stra Bianca stage. The ending to the famous classic in spring with the climb to Via Santa Catarina and the beautiful entry into Sienna itself. You can watch it all on TNT Sports.

why is the commentary and the video so mismatched? the commentator says something and then the video shows what he describes like 5 seconds later
Uae sux
Glad arrieta was dropped.
Please don't include spoilers in the titles of your videos!
I appreciate the coverage. But it needs to be much longer for those of us who want to see more of the race.
Worst recap ever.
Nice to see good racing ๐ข๐ข
Commentary is boring af
This commentator seems to have a speech impediment. He really struggles with the 'r' in French and Spanish names.
Wow Plapp looked smooth and chill! Amazing work.
So cool to see Italy in Pink!
statement from china's bike manufacturer
Brilliant ride by Plappy!!! Well deserved!!!
Stage 9 is going to be exciting. Strade di Colle Pinzuto is where we saw Pogi drop Pidcock in March so I expect Pidcock to make his mark and redeem himself right here on that stretch. It's 2.4km but starts out at 15% and it's 14kms from the finish but there is also a brutal 500m climb of 12% just 800m from the finish so I think it's a day for Pidcock

I like the highlights re-telling the stage, but miss not seeing "live" footage of the final km or so.
Well done Lucas Plapp. Well done Jayco.
Shame we have to only watch highlights since Eurosport was bought out. I only watch cycling, not interested in any other sports, but I aint gonner spend 20 Quid a month for TNT on sky. 5 quid for only cycling then yes..
F**k yeah plappy!
I was happy to see Roglic didnโt make the unforgivable mistake of wearing pink shorts with his pink jersey.
Muito bom ver a camisa Rosa sem disputada a todo dia…
Well done ๐
