Fitting a new Fox 38 fork onto a new frame, fitted the headset on the screenshot which fits fine, but once top cap is tightened the steering is super stiff and doesn’t turn freely and seems to be some play in the headset.
Does the fork need a crown race on the top or is it included in the headset?
It’s the only reason why I can think as to why the steering is stiff.
Thanks.

The Cane Creek 40 appears to come with a ‘sealed steel crown race.’ Headsets usually come with one if they’re not built in. Try backing off the headset a 1/8 turn and see if the steering frees up without introducing play.
