I've had this Scott Comp Racing since 1999 and I've done countless miles on it. I used to ride more advanced forest trails on it but now I mostly use it to get around and commute to work with. I love the bike and it's been so dependable and I didn't have to replace much at all on it. I feel I don't really need a suspended fork though and I wonder if it's easy to replace it with a normal fork and what to think about when finding one suitable. Any help is appreciated.

There are a few cheap options on AliExpress. Most common aluminium type would be a Mosso branded one.
I got an NOS Kona P2 fork for my 1999 Specialized Rockhopper for the looks. There are similar styles on AliExpress by Darkrock.
There are also carbon forks but many of the newer ones are disk brake which would require a new front wheel.
If you want something fancy you could hunt for some old school Ritchey forks on ebay.
