Got back into bikes a year or so back after a long lay off (i've ridden/raced a bit of downhill and done a bit of offroad duathlon, crosscountry racing in my 20's) I bought a hardtail with fairly slack geometry and entry/low-mid level components thinking I'd upgrade if I caught the bug again. It's been doing trail riding stretching into low end enduro territory and my late forties body is realising a dually would be preferable for that stuff. More recently, it's been pressed into duty as a commuter doing a 60km round trip, initially still with DH rubber strapped on, but then with a set of reckon race, a new saddle and some bar ends positioned at a similar width to the hoods on a drop bar. It's doin OK as a comuter but the gearing isn't optimal, niether is the weight. I'm going to get a gravel or road bike for the efficiency and shorter time to work. Which leaves the hardtail… It's going to become a bikepacker/utility bike I think.
I prefer a rack as I will likely grab groceries on it, so I added one of those Topeak racks and the clip in expandable bag that has built in panmiers etc. I don't love the look but the design is fantastic. It's a hardcore hardtail so the frame isnt ideal for frame bags. Another reason the tail bag and rack mske sense.
I've done a lot of lightweight/ultralight hiking/camping,, so have all the right shelter, cooking and sleep system gear to bikepack. Anyway here's my 'work in progress' bikepacking rig. I'll add a toptube bag and will probably carry my tent strapped to the top tube as well.
Any suggestiobs?

Dude I think it looks great! For handlebar bag mounting options, I would recommend getting one of these: [https://www.bol.com/nl/nl/p/trizand-stuurverlenger-voor-fietsen-en-scooters-meer-ruimte-voor-uw-accessoires/9300000172334975/?bltgh=jz7wbEbf7q7SBhd353xIVQ.4_8.9.ProductTitle](https://www.bol.com/nl/nl/p/trizand-stuurverlenger-voor-fietsen-en-scooters-meer-ruimte-voor-uw-accessoires/9300000172334975/?bltgh=jz7wbEbf7q7SBhd353xIVQ.4_8.9.ProductTitle)
This will keep some space for your cables, as it moves the bag away a few inches. Works great on my flatbars!
