Hi – a bit of detail below, but TLDR, looking for a bike in New Zealand, that would be mostly used on a trainer (Kickr core, likely). Tossing up between two Trek Bikes – AL Domane 2 and FX 2 – though I am struggling with finding stock and not sure if that is just NZ, or because refreshes are coming.
Link to versions I have seen online, but not in stores:

I am looking to get my first bike in what might be 20 years. I am mainly a runner, but I am expecting to be losing a lot of the free time I currently am able to fit in mid week runs (2 kids, wife returning to work so think its less fair to disappear for an hour after work when we are both coming home from work) – my theory was to buy a stationary bike so that I could do something to maintain fitness during the week after the kids are asleep. That idea quickly turned into maybe I should just get an actual bike and a trainer, and then I can at least use the bike outside sometimes when there is opportunity (and as the kids get older).
After looking around I think I was leaning towards a kickr core, and a Trek FX 2. However there appears to be basically no stock anywhere – the problem being I am in New Zealand (I am yet to see one physically, and I am not buying without trying here).
What does seem to have some (limited) stock is Trek AL Domane 2 – which was something I was initially looking at as well, and is not significantly more expensive than the FX2 (listed prices, though I think both are part of sales currently).
My thinking of leaning towards the FX was it was cheaper, and all signs are it would be a bit more upright and comfortable (again, haven’t yet been able to actually try either) – though I get the impression the Domane isn’t super aggressive, and I do like the idea of drops.

If I am looking at mainly using the bike on a trainer, with the occasional weekend ride (maybe an hour or 2 long, as I do that running), which would always be on roads/bike paths (maybe occasionally going onto some grass – but not trails etc), would one of these be significantly better than the other?

Also – in terms of stock – is there any indication that either of these lines is expecting an update soon? When talking to someone in store about the FX 2, they saw there were basically no bikes at any of their stores (especially in M/L sizes I would be interested in), and also none at the supplier either. Not sure if this is just a factor of New Zealand, or if they have been letting stock go as a refreshed version would be coming.
I am not super rushed to purchase, could easily wait through the end of the year (though now I have been looking into it, I am excited)
Thanks,

I have both an older FX 2 and an older Domane Al 3. The Domane is more fun to ride. The Domane is more comfortable on long rides. The Domane is much MUCH faster.
The FX is a great commuting bike and grocery bike, and that’s about it. It’s practical, not fun. It has a very high weight capacity and front rack mounts.
