Used to have a road bike. Went on 2 5-day 270 mile trips down highway one in California. Been a few years, but getting back into biking. Bought a shit ’05 specialized mtb that weighs 42 lbs from my father, and as you can imagine, it’s been difficult. Been riding 50 miles a week. I like touring and exploring.
Gonna buy an entry lvl road bike, stuck between the two in the title. Trek Domane Al 2 Gen 4 or Canyon Endurance 6/8? All bottom of the line aluminum endurance road bikes. Main diff is weight and components, and ofc price. Wanna buy new cause I want the right frame size, newer components, style.

I like the look of the trek a bit more. The frame looks a bit more interesting. Also the red+black livery and lettering. That’s important. You want to walk into your garage and say, “damn that looks sick.”
What it comes down to for me is the componentry and weight. Am I going to be sad I didn’t spend only $300 more for 1kg less? Will I notice this amount of weight? Secondly, will Clarus hold up? I’ve been riding 50 miles a week, and maybe just a bit more in the future once I get a proper bike. Those are the main two things.
A couple minor things: Canyon has a 34 vs Trek’s 32 max sprocket, how much easier will it be to hill climb? Not even noticeable? I like being able to fit 38mm (trek) vs 35mm (canyon) tires. Maybe I’ll throw some knobbies on, but realistically prob not. Then ofc as mentioned the cooler frame design (trek). (subjective, but my bike XD).

With rim brakes it comes in at only 21.1 lbs, (9.57kg). Clarus, 11-34, 28mm max tire width. Everyone tells me don’t get rim brakes cause it’ll be harder to find a rim (I’m broke I ain’t buying new rims), and inferior stopping ability. (I never had a problem stopping with my rim brakes.)

The most important thing to me is that the Canyon comes with better wheels than the Trek. Trek’s entry level wheels are stupidly heavy and have mediocre bearings.
There is a much bigger difference between Claris vs Tiagra than between Tiagra vs 105. Tiagra is my personal choice my touring bike.
I vote for the Canyon 6
The rim brakes would certainly be my choice on a budget, rather than inexpensive mechanical brakes. You’ll have to stay with thinner tires. But as suggested in other answers, claris is for hybrid commuter bikes, the 9 gear Sora is for introduction to racing and road bikes, and Tiagra is a good quality alu 2×10 gears.
Why isn’t the Domane AL4 on the list, it’s priced between the Canyons, and you get Tiagra with hydraulic brakes.
