Hi peeps,
So my bf and I would like to try travelling with our bikes. We've done motorbikes now we wanna try bicycles 😍
We're both:
– Brussels daily cyclists
– he has a triban and is very sporty
– I have an electric fat bike
We couldn't be more opposite when it comes to bicycles.
Reasons I have the fat bike:
– I got it for free
– I hate thin wheels
– I'm very very sensitive and the sport position on all the normal bikes hurts me too much. So much I really don't enjoy even the short rides
My hesitation:
What would you recommend in terms of bikes to travel that doesn't have this super high position?
(no cushion or seat recommendations, I've tried several and it just doesn't work)
I'm guessing electric is going to be difficult.
In terms of ideal things we would do, I like the more extreme side of sports like rafting, Canyoning and probably would love mountain biking. I get bored very quick when the road is just straight and there's no obstacles 😂 this sound like I'm very sporty but I'm not though!
My bf will add some gravel tires to his bike

Since you’re in Brussels, are there some lighter weight bikes that sit similar to the ebike that you could try? Also a pedal powered fat bike might work since it would be similar to your ebike and be lighter than the ebike. People use them for touring.
Trekking bikes would be good for you, they typically have front suspension, upright and comfy seating positions and handlebars, and are meant for touring.

tubeless tires at the right pressure can be very comfy and reasonably fast. if you get a touring/trekking style bike with a fairly upright position and some 42 or 45mm tubeless tires, it might be pretty comfy. try to find a light bike too, like under 10kg. titanium is nice if you have the budget.
