What a better way to get to know a city than cycling in it! Study Abroad student Dora discusses the affordability, safety, and ease of renting a bike in Belgium and how students navigate the streets.

Dora Engler | Euroscholars (Belgium) – Spring 2025

Let’s talk about getting around in Belgium. We can’t talk about public transportation without talking about bicycles because they are the main mode of transport for students. Instead of buying a bike, a lot of students decide to rent. And one of the main places to rent a bike is VO. They have great student discounts and a lot of bikes you can choose from from electrical, secondhand bikes, and even brand new bikes that they make in the shop. In addition, every student accommodation and academic building has a bicycle shed where you can park your bike and make sure it’s safe. As you can see, rentals are extremely affordable for students with only €35 for the entire semester. It is such an enjoyable way to get to classes and meet the city.
