I bought an old Schwinn from some guy selling a bunch of bikes on the sidewalk. I was hoping it would be a good way to see if I liked riding. Turns out I do, and it’s got me wanting to learn more about my bike (and it’s left me with a few concerns for the safety of the frame).

My best guess so far is a 70s Continental. The thing that’s tripping me up is the amount of space between the seat stays, the seat tube, and the top tube. I cannot find any reference pictures of older Schwinn models where the seat stays are attached so far forward on the top tube. This got me looking closer at the welds, and I am suspicious that it may have been rewelded, but I don’t know enough to know.

Anyone out there who is smarter than I am on this have any thoughts?

I appreciate any and all help.
