I have been cycling around 1hr per day on tarmac on a basic trek fx 2 hybrid for around 3 years. Cycling for a bit of fitness and mental health.

I’m looking for an entry level road bike and wondering if this would be too difficult to get used to?

Is it a good bike for the price €650 ($700) ?

Level that saddle before you test ride it, make sure it fits, and if so it’s a great first bike.

  2. Those 80mm deep wheels could be difficult for a new rider. They can catch gusts from side wind. The value seems quite good, I could see it going for a few hundred more.

I never trust people who say their bike was barely used, it often means they are lying or have left their bike neglected at the back of the garage. However that looks like a nice bike. Merida makes great bikes, which is why I have 2 of them!

  4. Its a good price, but the wheels are not gonna be very beginner friendly. Theese will catch the wind quite badly being so deep. And make steering a bit of a hazard for someone just starting out on a road bike.

If you live somewhere windy you might want to keep this in mind.

Remeber to be on top of maintenace and keep the braking surfaces clean and also the brake pads. The frame also looks to be carbon so all screws should be tightened using a torque wrench.

The steerer tube should also be checked for wear and make sure that the steerer plug is on the same level as the stem, the stem should not be clamped arond a hollow carbon tube. An indented ring on the fork steerer is grounds for a new fork.

This is also a bike for a very tall rider so keep that in mind.

Wheels look to be a no name chinese type of deal. So the saftey may not be guarantees to 100% but if the bike has been ridden a little it seems that the wheels have held up.

  5. Probably, mainly the wheels. I’ve ridden wheels half that deep on windy days and near been blown off the road.
