I'm buying this bike mainly for the frame and wheels as I am building my own bike this summer. I'm interning for a bike shop and lots of senior mechanics willing to help and used parts inventory I have access to. I can't find the model online for this so I don't know if the frame is aluminium carbon and if the rims are aluminium. My question is, is this a worthy investment for CA$100. The frames I am seeing online are already more than 100 bucks so I figured just buy a bike for the parts. Thanks to all the legends in this sub reddit

  1. Definately not carbon, probably steel. A good price if it fits you, looks to be for quite a small rider

  2. I’m not sure I understand, why buy it for the frame if you don’t know anything about the frame?

Anyway, the 700 was the lowest in the Multitrack lineup. Trek put a big “CHRO-MO” sticker on the downtube, but it’s actually kind of a bait-and-switch, because if you read the fine print, only the seat tube is chromoly steel, and the rest is probably high-tensile. Some of the higher-end multitracks did come with a complete Chro-moly steel frame, though. If possible, try to get one of those. Although $100 for the bike is fair.

Edit: some more info is that I’m 5’2 (158cm) so finding bike frames that fit me is also kind of annoying. I’m not well-versed on what size the parts of the frames would fit me either so if anyone has any tips pls tell me. I’m debating between this an a raleigh big horn 12speed city bike. That one is also CA$100 and has aluminium carbon frame and rims, but then it makes me wonder about the quality. It’s a bit frustrating not being able to know everything but alas I am a poor student so gotta make do with what I have. Thanks everyone!
