That is a beautiful bike! I especially like the period randonneur front rack. the rims are a good fit too, hard to believe this was 700c.
Derailleur could be prettier though. I think this needs a polished aluminium part and a slightly older rd-6600Gs or STX would surely also shift that cassette without problems (30, 32T?). I bet Deore deerhead would look awesome on this.
How are the mafacs in terms of braking power?

Ooof, and the Mafacs could just handle it? What tire size could you fit before and after? I have a 700c build with Mafacs and 35s and would love to go wider. Where did you find the wheels?
