Had to replan my route after trying to take a ferry that didn't exist anymore. Went through the kapidag peninsula west of Bursa and wild camped in Kirazeli Monastery.
Abandoned in 1922, nature has taken back what is hers and I had the place to myself. Just me, the birds and the lizards.
Grueling climb up a mountain, getting chased by dogs multiple times but it was magical and well worth the effort. There are some roman and greek ruins on the way down as well (temple of Hadrian, necropolis and parts of an amphitheater in some guy's olive grove).

Making my way into Bulgaria now.

  1. Thank you for the great photoset. We toured Tyrkey in a VW kombi in 1992, I had a mountain bike (primitive one) and had some amazing rides in that country. We were blown away by the history and landscapes, but most of all by the incredible hospitality of the people. Has that changed much?
