On day 8 of our 6-week bike tour, my wife's bike decided it no longer needed a bottom bracket cable guide. Naturally, I sprang into action with a high-tech fix: a chopped-up plastic bottle top, expertly notched with whatever sharp thing I could find. Five minutes later—voilà!—a homemade cable guide was born.

A hundred miles later, it's still going strong. We even found a proper replacement at a lovely little Italian bike shop… but my wife won’t let me install it.

Why? Because the bottle top works. And apparently now it's part of the bike’s personality.

Long live the Bottle Bracket 3000!
