I took the wheel and rear derailleur off my DS2 to clean everything and now I am basically having trouble putting it back together. I think I may have crossed the chain somewhere or put the derailleur on wrong. I am really a novice so I would really appreciate explanations for a five yo.
Thank you so much in advance and may the gods bless you and your descendants.

You forgot to put the chain on the rear cassette as you put the wheel on. Do that and also the front chain ring.

guide the chain like this around the pulleys
Align the rear derailleur so that the chain will be on the smallest cog. Easier to put on the chain that way
Wow, you shouldn’t remove a rear derailleur to clean it, it will need to be tuned now. I highly suggest just going to the shop. It will be probably around $50 to fix. Don’t feel bad, I have walked into my shop more than once asking them to fix my mistakes. Sometimes they have done it for free.
It seems like you forgot to pass the chain over the cassette when you were assembling everything together

The image details how the chain must go
Chain goes across top of crank and also across top of rear cogs.
If you didn’t mess with the limit screws then you’ll just have to dial in the cable tension.
The issue with the chain has been covered, but you’ve got your skewer on backwards too. Won’t cause much trouble but it can get in the way depending in what position it’s tightened in.
But also please reinstall your quick release skewer with the lever on the non-drive side (rider’s left) and make sure you close it completely. You should feel a bit of tension when you press it down but you don’t need to crank super hard. Make sure the bike is upright and on the ground when you do it.
