Hello folders,
I’ve been considering buying a brompton lately and I can’t decide which one to choose from. Could you please help me?
The Black and red brompton is from a UK seller on eBay. It’s used but in pretty great (mint condition, according to the seller) condition. The total cost is 1,234 GBP, roughly $1,573.14 (ebay charged a little bit extra. If I pay in GBP directly with my credit card, it should be about $1,510).
Here are what I like about this bike:
1. Nice color configuration.
2. Comes with the rear rack.
3. For a M6R in great condition, the price is good.
But I also like the flame lacquer (black edition). It’s currently sold at $1,950 at most of the reputable sellers, including REI.
Here are what I like about this bike.
1. Very good looking. I like it better than the black/red brompton.
2. Even though the current price is high but I’m hoping there’ll be a sale in November. If I buy it from REI, I could earn 10% member rewards, plus I can buy REI gift card at 15% off from target and use the gift card to make the payment. It’s possible to get it even cheaper than $1,500.
Negative things about this choice:
1. Not sure about whether it will be on sale.
2. I need to wait a little bit longer. Not a big deal for me.
3. It doesn’t have the bike rack and or extra wheels. Not sure whether it matters. Maybe I can buy a better rack and wheels.
Which one will you choose if you were I? Thanks for your help in advance.

There’s something wrong about the numbering. Sorry about it.
I’d wait for the flame one and just buy the rear rack and extra wheels. 🙂
black/red all the way b’cause much more unusuAL
It is practical to look around for a few weeks, to see what buying options turn up for the Brompton color you like best. The most significant fitting choice would be the handlebars, either low, mid or high, because the stem height and control cable lengths are specific to low, mid, and high bars, respectively.
Flame looks cool
B&R has more charm
That’s my take.
Only advice I’d give is pick the one YOU love most. It’s going to be with you 10 years+ so any difference in upfront costs will be next to nothing when spread over that amount of time
I had the same decision to make a while back , and thought as nice as the flame one was I couldn’t warrant the huge extra cost and then be worried more about scratching it the nature of folding bikes there far more susceptible to scratches as the nature of where you store it , carrying it about ect plus the red and black is way more unusual hard decision to make but a fun one either way your going to get an amazing bike 😄
Flame. 100% flame
100% flame. Not a shadow of doubt.
I have the flame black edition and I congratulate myself on my good taste everytime I open my shed door in the morning to get it
Something also to bear in mind is that the 2024 P-Line is coming out in flame laquer. So it depends if you want a C line or P line…
Those tyres need some air
If you’re likely to use it a lot in the wet, go for the black/red as it won’t show the rust. Otherwise flame lacquer and get the extras you need.
