I raced at a relative high level, now returning to turning the pedals, opted for second hand LOOK 765 to accommodate previous back injury, love.the ride and engineering quality, not the weight! How could I achieve 7.5kg?
I try to be frugal and practical but have my cake & eat it, too. Aka, I’ve been able to shave about a pound based on my findings here for maybe like, $0.50/g or less (but I’ve also patiently waited for deals to pop up on second hand market, or just pulled the trigger on something relatively cheap (like a Woodman seatpost)).

On a budget? Unlikely to happen
Hypothetically if money was no object (but still within reason): any modern and shallow Chinese wheelset should be 350-400g lighter than the hollowgrams, cybrei/elilee carbon crankset is another 150-200g over ultegra. The rest can be achieved through lighter saddle, cassette, bottle cages, handlebars, tpu tubes. All in you’re looking at anywhere between 1k-2k dollars for the upgrades.
These are Chinese brands so if you’re a purist and want to pursue western alternatives and the likes of Lightweight and Darimo, you might as well just get a second dedicated climbing bike.

As you would already know chasing grams increases $ exponentially. Cheaper to get fitter and faster.
Or find used mechanical Dura Ace or Super Record.
(My trusty Look 695 is 6.2 kg)

If you have been out of it for long enough, you might go through this endeavor only to learn that the lightweight bikes of the 90s and early 2000s were less comfortable, less efficient, and overall slower than today’s bikes that weigh a touch more. A 15lb bike at 110psi on 23mm tires felt fast because it was rough, twitchy, and unstable. Today’s bikes can feel sluggish but in reality they are probably faster than you think.
A drag race between mid range Tesla from today vs a 20 year old top spec Corvette won’t even be close but the Tesla won’t instill as much excitement as the vette.
