  1. I recently read this Rene Herse article on “planing” and how it affects bikes such as the Lightning Bolt (and other steel randonneur bikes) and was first skeptical. But coming off riding my steel 90’s Hard Rock at the start of the day to then taking an evening ride with my LB…I think there really is something to it.

    There’s a supple and almost compliant nature of the frame that makes it super fun to mash the ever-living shit out of this bike. It’s similar to maybe having a suspension front fork, but it doesn’t feel like you’re wasting energy it just feels like the frame is utilizing and even amplifying your energy output into an even greater amount.

    I don’t know maybe I’m making it up but damn does this bike feel good when you ride the piss out of it.
