I'm planning a bikepacking adventure from Los Angeles to San Diego and need help choosing the best route, ideally with minimal traffic. Any recommendations, tips, or insights would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
I was thinking of taking the train back from San Diego to LA.

I live in Oceanside so I have some insight for that area. I would probably lean more towards A. Riding through B would be super hot but probably could keep more of a distance from cars. Riding A would be much more pretty, way less hills

B seems more interesting but prohibitively hot

ofc B

Ride down B (with a ton of water) ride back A and then report back in.

Both will be hot. Both will have major portions of bad traffic/car situations. I would not do it. I live there. Do a route in the desert or something.

Definitely A. You will have to ride on the freeway though the base unless you get a pass. To get a pass you have to ho to the visitor center at the main gate (on the south side of the base) and apply so you would have to do that beforehand.

A modified Route A.
Cruise down to Malibu and catch the beach strand.
South all the way down and around Palos Verdes.
Go around and thru the port on surface streets. It’s kinda sketchy but doable.. or catch a water taxi from San Pedro to Long Beach ports o call.
The rest of the route looks like you’ve got it.
Then south on the LB strand till you get to the kiteboarders.. jog over to 2nd street otherwise you’ll get stuck on a peninsula. Over the bridge and into seal beach and join PCH. Back into the neighborhood in sunset beach and strand/beach lot all the way to Newport.
Catch the ferry in Newport and then go south along the beach roads or up to PCH. Then keep going south all the way thru Laguna. Dana Point, Doheny beach, Thru San Clemente, all the way to San Onofre and go all the way down the campground. Go through the tunnel and onto Camp Pendleton.. HAVE your ID ready to get on the base.
Then south to Oceanside.
Keep goin south till Mexico! (But don’t go near the TJ river area.
