I always wanted to learn how to build my own wheels. Took some trial and error, but watching and reading other people’s guides had helped me a lot. A couple of velocity 26” 32h rims, Deore xt disc hubs, and DT Swiss spokes. It does take a lot of patience and little adjustments do go a long way. It wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be once I got a good work flow. The 2nd wheel was a bit easier to build. With this project, I got a better understanding on how to fully true and dish a wheel.

Great job! Make sure to get the tension nice and high so they hold together.

  3. Feels good doesn’t it? Make sure you stress the spokes either in the stand or in the ground and then true one last time. Also don’t trust your truing stand’s dish readings. If you don’t have a dishing gauge(I don’t) use three aluminum cans and a stack of pennies/washers to verify dish. Good job, I hate building wheels

This is something I’ve always wanted to do but sadly no room in my little garage to get a proper setup.

New rims and new hubs or were you reusing parts?

I’ve built BMX wheels so haven’t had to dish yet. Did you need to use unequal length spokes on the rear wheel?

That’s so rad!! This is something I’ve wanted to do since I was like 15. I tired to build my own wheel stand out of some flat holey bar stock and it was a massive failure. You’ve given me inspiration to try again 18 years later 🙂 any advice?
