Disclaimer: I know I have very little to complain about, especially compared to people in the sub who were hit/injured. My rant stems from the fact it really pisses me off when cars do manoeuvres around cyclists that they wouldn’t do around other cars.
I live in a decently slow-moving city, especially past 7 p.m. There’s one left turn I have to make and I basically transfer from the bike lane to the left turn lane. I only do it when it’s safe, which is 99% of the time. Please see the terribly-made images for context lol.
I’m behind the yellow car car in the left-turn lane. We’re waiting for a car on the other side to go through the intersection. We’re the only 3 cars here and there’s 17 seconds on the green light, if that gives any context as to how low-stakes it is. As I’m ready to turn, a car (represented by the white van) that seems it’s going straight is now riding beside me, then is choking my lane, and beats me to left-turn.
I make eye contact with what seems to be a young woman. She sees me, helmet lights and front beams and all, but still overtakes my turn.
I’m going to give her the benefit of the doubt and assume she’s an inexperienced driver but holy frick. Must be something about Friday evenings that make people super impatient.
