I bought this bike a couple of years ago on fb marketplace – the seller said it had "been in his grandpa's attic." Which I believed at the time… but the more immersed in the xbike world I've become, the more I suspect that this is more than just a grandpa build. Unless his grandpa had the whole bike repainted, added new braze-ons for the gear hub, converted it to cantis (?), and put on the fancy alu albatross bars and B17. No, I suspect that this was a lovingly built bike by and for someone younger, of the xbike persuasion, or of a similar niche mindset. And then stolen and sold to me for $100.
I feel it's the right thing to do to put this out there and see if it was stolen from its rightful (and very tasteful) owner. And if not, which would put my mind at ease, consider this a belated NBD post.
