I’m not really sure how to articulate this thought but it’s crazy to me how we cycle (lol) through the same ideas over and over again. Like, the first mountain bikes were DIY modifications of old prewar Schwinn cruisers. Fast forward 30 years and DIY types are decommissioning and modifying the production mountain bikes they inspired and turning them back into cruiser bikes. What’s old is new again, again.

  1. Never really tried bars with that much sweep. Rode a couple beach cruisers before. The steering was kinda weird coming from flat bars.

  2. Yeah, but the gears. For all intents and purposes we’re reinventing the hybrid.

Look at pictures of bicycles in the 1890s. People had figured out what makes an ideal bicycle by then. What’s fashionable enough to sell keeps changing, but everything reverts back to a roadster.

Kind of like how cars keep evolving into station wagons. Van->minivan, SUV->crossover, pickup->crew cab pickup.
