    I had one of those disc brakes on a tenspeed in the late 70s.

    Now, what’s going on with that axle, or whatever is screwed onto that axle? Some kinda trailer fitting perhaps?

    I mean, I did put together and have tweaked as best as possible some canti brakes for my junk bike, but those are notorious to mess up your wheels off true, given they are the most prone to unbalanced pressure between the left and right pads.

    That seems fun and seemingly rare, why not having fun tinkering around with them if the price is cheap?

  4. Two things come to mind:

    Some disc pads of that era contained asbestos.

    Diagonal dropouts and a disc brake look like a recipe for the axle twisting in the dropouts under braking force, among other issues.
