Anyone seen this before? My brain tells me I don't want it but my heart disagrees. Can anybody tell me why I shouldn't fuck up perfectly good canti brakes to install this junk instead??
I mean, I did put together and have tweaked as best as possible some canti brakes for my junk bike, but those are notorious to mess up your wheels off true, given they are the most prone to unbalanced pressure between the left and right pads.
That seems fun and seemingly rare, why not having fun tinkering around with them if the price is cheap?

You don’t want that old ass disc brake. Nope

Two things come to mind:
Some disc pads of that era contained asbestos.
Diagonal dropouts and a disc brake look like a recipe for the axle twisting in the dropouts under braking force, among other issues.

Found on marketplace with the description ‘a special type of disc brake’ & ‘doesn’t work super well but may be fixable’
This could be something.
It looks like one of the very early disc brakes from the 70s / 80s

I had one of those disc brakes on a tenspeed in the late 70s.
Now, what’s going on with that axle, or whatever is screwed onto that axle? Some kinda trailer fitting perhaps?
I have one of those on an old supercycle.
