On this ride I cycle from Exeter to do a loop around Bovey Tracey. It’s a 40 mile route with about 3000ft of climbing. Along the way I had to stop to adjust my wrongly placed cleat, that I had recently installed. I was suffering from knee pain so I continue to micro adjust the cleat, until I was comfortable with the position. I did make mistakes with positioning, so it was trial and error to get my knee straight when peddling.
My observations are the subject of this ride. So come along and enjoy another great cycling adventure.

How are [Applause] you? What are you doing? [Applause] Hi guys, welcome back and thanks again for joining me on my ride today. Well, right now I’m starting a busher. just uh adjusting my um cleat. Yeah, my sprung snapped on the uh speed plate cleat on the last ride or right before and um so I had to put a new cleat on the bottom. Got an old one back. I put an old one back on again. But um I put it in the wrong position and my knee is um my right knee is uh just every time I’m pedaling down putting a down stroke, it’s just gone off. So, uh, I just got to move the, uh, cleat into the, uh, in a little bit just to align it with my [Applause] knee. Yeah. I don’t know if you guys can see that. So, I’ve pushed it all the way in off to one side. Bring it bring the uh, shoe closer to the crank. And that should straighten up my knee. Yeah. So, bringing that cleat in towards the uh crank arm, it’s going to stop my knee from wobbling like that there. Every time I’m pedaling, it’s going like that. So, just bring the cleat in a little bit and uh my knee should uh run a lot [Applause] smoother. Yeah. So, this morning is an absolutely beautiful day. I’m on my way to do a loop around Bubby Tracy. So, uh, as usual, guys, let’s go and see if we see anything interesting on today’s ride. As you can see from the pedal, I’ve actually moved the, uh, the cleat the wrong way. It should be, uh, pretty much in line with that one there. Well, in a bit closer, actually. In fact, I’ve moved it out. Yeah, my mistake. I got to stop and just realign it again. I I’d actually uh pushed my uh foot away from the uh crank. So, I shall just quickly adjust the uh position of this cleat and uh get on my way. Wondering many of you eagleeyed viewers noticed my mistake right away. Uh yeah. So, I’m just going to um slide that this side to bring my foot closer to the crank arm. Right guys, I shall carry on with my journey. Yeah, look at that there later, guys. Yeah, my lead my knee is looking a lot lot straighter now. Feels a bit better in this position. I may have to tweak it a little bit. That’s what you do, don’t you guys? You got to do micro adjustments when you’re out on the ride. Yeah. At the end of my last ride, because I didn’t I didn’t bother stopping. I just rode on right through the knee pain and uh a big big mistake. Yeah. So, today’s all about dialing in uh my comfort. I got traffic lights here now, guys. And we’re off. I’m stopping for they should be on reds. And yeah, I’m just looking down at my knee guides as I’m riding. Just making sure it’s not going like that there. And roller like that. It looks okay to be fair, but it just feels a bit weird. Oh, yeah. Oh, look at this old car here, guys. Nice, isn’t it? Oh, yeah. Yeah, you only got to move your cleat a little bit or adjust your saddle in any way. And those bells, you can uh you going to throw everything out. Absolute minefield. When it comes to the cleat position, I normally just dead center them all like, you know what I mean? Put them in the dead center and then make my little adjustments accordingly. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. So, I got to go through all this headache again soon, guys, cuz I’m looking for a new pair of shoes. Um, so obviously I’m going to have to fit new cleats onto them as well. Speed play cleat. Yeah, I’m looking to change up to a uh a white pair of shoes rather than blacks. I’ve always had black shoes and I fancy a white pair of shoes this time. [Music] Obviously, white shoes are faster than black shoes. So, uh yeah, I’m looking forward to [Laughter] that. Yeah, but on the other side of things, you got to get used to a new pair of shoes, the comfort, the position again. Oh, am I going to be giving myself another huge nightmare? I don’t know. I feel as if my uh cleat position needs tweaking a little bit more. Yeah, though it looks okay. It really really does. It just feels like it’s uh maybe a little bit too close. Maybe I just got to pull it off a mill or two. morning. It’s a nice little bench here for me to stop on. Make some further adjustments, I think, to that cleat. Take this walkabout cover back off again. How you doing? How is it? Slightly move that out a little bit more. That’s sort of halfway. I’ll show you. That’s sort of halfway to where I was when I started. Yeah. So, that’s a little bit off [Applause] now. You got to do these little micro adjustments. I’m not saying this is going to be right. I’ll probably have to stop again, guys. Who knows? Let’s see how that feels. Oh, yeah. Yeah, if you are suffering knee pain at all, you can pretty much narrow it down to either your seat being too high or too low. Mainly people have their seats too high or it’s your cleat position. So uh who knows how morning nice to see all the cyclist out today and the cycling club there look like mid Devon cycling club. Now cycling clubs unfortunately not for me. I personally can’t think of anything worse than being part of a cycling group. But yeah, yeah, I’m a bit of a free spirit that way. I’m coming into Bubby Tracy now. I want to turn where that lorry’s uh just pulled out. Have a look at this church. As you can see from the uh St. George’s flag, not much wind. Yeah, we just had uh we just um celebrated St. George’s Day. Hey, hey, [Music] hey. Heat. Heat. Hey [Music] there. [Music] Thank you. Have a nice day. Yeah, I think I’ll go up over um up over Holden on the way home, I think. Hey, fellow. All right. Lots of happy cyclists out today. And it’s just lovely and peaceful there, guys. It really is. I just thought I’ll uh stop and give you a bit of the ambiance down here. It really is beautiful. I’m still not 100% sure whether that cleat position is right. Yeah. So, like I said, the uh I’m looking for a new pair of shoes anyway soon, so I’ll probably have to do all this cleat adjustment again. But um the brands I’m looking at are Lake Shimano and Specialized and I’m favoring the Lakes at the moment. They’re uh a shoe that I really do like the look of. They look more rugged than uh formal. Do you know what I mean for a road cycling shoe? I don’t like a shoe that looks too formal. Why didn’t I go back to physique? You know, these physiques are really, really comfortable. Um, but they’re not the right size for me. You know, I’ve always been riding a size eight or a 42. And it turns out I’m a 7 and 1/2. Um, which is a 41.5. Didn’t know that. Uh, so it’s going that’s going to make a massive difference to my cleat position anyway, riding a smaller shoe or the correct size shoe, should I say. Mate, I got to get a smaller and wider shoe. That’s it. Use your battery as a [Laughter] [Music] hammer. It’s not too busy on the roads, guys, is it? You don’t get fit sat on the sofa pedestrians. There’s our beautiful flag flying proudly there. I got my Creole booked in for a service cuz I noticed that the bearings had uh gone on my rear wheel. Does happen if your bearings are going to go. It’s nine times out of 10 it’s on the rear wheel. So uh I’ve been a little bit cautious today especially on the descents. Yeah. Yeah. So, whilst it’s in for uh the bearing change, I give it a quick going over, check all the headset, the uh check the motor out on this thing. Maybe update it on the system, do a firmware update. Yeah. So, it’s well worth getting it in anyway. Yearly, I would say, should I even be out on the bike? I should have put my um I should have put my gravel wheels on really and went gravel riding cuz I think it was last year I had the rear wheel bearings done on that one last year actually. Yeah, it was. So, that one was all tiptop condition. Don’t seem to last long though. These bearings, did they? [Music] I’ve been climbing this hill uh with a motor off at the moment. Just wanted to see what sort of gradients I could climb. It is fluctuating between um 10 and 12°. We’re on 11 at the moment. 11° at the moment. Motor’s off. Little mud there. Yeah. Over the days Yeah, I’m really pleased I can uh I can do this. I’ve never ever come up this hill on this bike with a motor off. I know it defeats the object of having an ebike, but it’s always really nice to challenge yourself sometimes. Is it guys? Motor’s still off. Gone down to 8% now, guys. 8% gradient. Cool. That certainly warmed me up, guys. And leveling out now. Going to about 4%. Um 6 and 12 mph. Obviously, the motor’s still off. We’re in this absolute beautiful, beautiful part of Holden. And then look what I see. Some scum of the earth. Absolute scum of the earth has chucked all that down there. Honestly, if I could rid the world of people that do this, I would. Absolutely. the bottom feeders of society. That’s disgusting. Absolute disgusting. Look at this area, guys. Look at it. Yeah, I know it’s not very Christian of me to um wish to rid the world of scum like that, but it really does wind me up, guys. It really does wind me up. Oh, I would love to catch him. I really would. Yeah, the motor is still off on 76%. On a free Where’s my 3.6% grade and I’m up at Holden now. We’ll have a little ride around here soon. Yeah, for me now it’s all pretty much downhill, but I’m going to have to take it a bit easy with those uh rear bearings. I don’t fancy um chances are nothing’s going to happen, but I don’t want to take that chance if you know what I mean. Get a bit of wheel wobble back there. I’ll take it easy, I think. Hello. Coming into exit again now, guys. Oh, what a wonderful ride it’s been today. Oh, can’t believe the uh temperatur warming up. The sun’s coming out. Just absolutely lovely, isn’t it, guys? area. Sorry. Right guys, I got 68% of the battery left. I’ve done 38.8 miles, 2,831 ft of climbing. Right, that’s it from me for today’s ride, guys. I hope you enjoyed that one. Well, if you did, could you please give us a like and come and subscribe to the channel if you haven’t already? Anyway, until next time, guys. Keep smiling and riding and hopefully I’ll see you soon. Bye for now. Bye-bye. Bye. [Applause] [Music] [Applause]

I have 3 sets of Lake shoe and they are just brilliant. For wide feet, you can't get better. My main shoe is Lake 242, which allows the toe box so be tighten independently. They are damn expensive, but do last. The leather ones are kangaroo leather, which is tougher than cow. For knee pain, I went for shorter cranks. The Creo 2 came with 175mm for the 58 and I am now running 170mm, which as really helped. My other recomendation is a bike fit to get the ultimate position. It will also give you a solid understanding of the position changes.
What doesn't help with Creo 1 bikes is the wide Q factor. It's much narrower on the Creo 2 apparently.
Hola, llevo la misma cala que tú, y a veces pierdo la protección amarilla o negra, también te pasa a ti? También tengo la misma bic
Entirely agree with you about fly-tipping scumbags. See a lot when cycling down country lanes, probably 50% asbestos amongst the dumped material. Maybe the solution would be more accommodating waste disposal sites or building contractor certification to prove they use authorised disposal. However, no solutions for general public who are just too lazy to visit the local waste centre!
Thinking the same as to footwear. Ride Lake shoes due to my wide feet for road, though Bonties Gravel which seem to fit well. Is it me, or is the range on the Creo a lot longer, or is it due to my weight🤣 Jealous today as yesterday was looking forward to a ride as been away all week, felt a bit poorly this morning so walk in the sun later and fingers crossed I feel better tomorrow. Have a good weekend Harv😊👍
Blue skies, warm sunshine and beautiful scenery, can't beat it. I've done a couple of 20 mins rides just to get the legs and muscles used to the cycling regimen. I get off to dismount and walk like John Wayne; it's embarrassing😂😂😂
Beautiful scenery then spoilt by scumbags fly tipping. On a ride round South Northamptonshire recently, I saw no end of rubbish in farmers gateways, not good……… !
Lovely route. Long may we keep clear blue skies 😊….
I need a bike fit soon
Nice ride Harvey stunning mate I got some new gp 5000 30mm coming this week as my 28mm are very dodgy now so I will see how I get on with them .funny my rear wheel bearing have just started to get some play in so will sort that out .last year sorted bearing on me old creo lol stay safe mate ☀️🚴👍
Have you ever had a full bike fit? Lake are great shoes, also made for real feet inc wide feet.
