can we see the shifter? sometimes they have a preload you have to tighten so that it doesn’t just return back
Need more tension on the actual lever. Should be something to twist on the top center of it to add friction.
Your friction shifter is not applying enough friction to counteract the spring in the derailleur. You need to tighten the bolt that holds the lever to the shifter body. Tighten it just enough to where the lever stays where you put it, but not so tight that the lever is hard to operate.
