  1. 1,999 km so far on my Electric M6L Turkish Green, which was delivered a year ago, so I think it’s time for a little review. It’s been (mostly) a sweet ride.

I’m a birder so a lot of it has been on gravel or other off-road paths of some description (woodland, coastal, nature reserves etc) certainly not all tarmac riding, and it has held up really well in all weather conditions. With myself, food, drink and birding gear (binoculars, tripod, telescope, camera, sound recording gear) the load is over 100kg.

I haven’t done much tinkering with it, just replaced the HORRIBLE standard grips with some shortened Ergon Biocork GP3 130mm ones, louder bell, EZ clamps, Eazy Wheels replacements, cheap bottle & mobile phone holders, a bike stand for cleaning it on our tiny balcony, and a large bag for electric (ugh!). Top speed achieved 43.4km/h (may have been faster at some stage but I don’t often use Strava).

Problems encountered: upon arrival from factory; issue of slipping seat post and hub gear/indicator chain not properly assembled, but both easily fixed. Motor disengaged after riding through a deep puddle, and a few times when going over some big bumps, but fixed by removing battery and inserting it again. Just one puncture, after stupidly riding over some blackthorn being cut down along the canal. Flimsy battery connector cover on the mounting block snapped off. I also avoid riding in certain areas of London for fear of being mugged (bike insured via Laka but not all my birding gear). The large electric bag is shite for larger objects, the weird shape is really not user friendly at all. I’ll probably end up getting the rack installed for better luggage options.

Only serviced professionally once so far by my LBS Fudges (for free – 1st service reimbursed by the original retailer Pure Electric). The battery is definitely starting to lose a little bit of its range but I’ve yet to run out of juice on a ride. I’m also using the bike more and more as an acoustic Brompton, engaging the battery only on the hills/windy days.
Wishlist: lighter, easier to change between power modes, disc brakes, proper grips, louder bell, better electric bags, a smaller battery which can go on flights; this would also enable roomier bag designs AND give us the option to bring reasonably sized spare batteries as and when needed.

Most importantly though: I love my B and it’s so much fun to ride! Hopefully many more km’s on my mean, Turkish green, birding machine.

  2. Congrats and many more years to come! And what a bunch of lovely photos to commemorate the year. A wonderful sharing too.
Also a birder, but very amateurish/newb. Challenging but fun!

  3. GREATWHITESILENCE on

I see it’s electric / are they giving you a hard time say riding trains? Or bringing it inside of buildings?
