So I may have broken the og wheel on accident but now I cold set the dropouts to 135 from 114 it looks straight on tread into seatstay hole and all. I replaced the old coaster wheel with a 8 speed freewheel. But even then it still functionally is a one speed. How would I go about hanging a derailleur? Or should I just accept it as a fixie? I mean I like gears though. Thanks very much all help is appreciated! 🙂

Search for a claw derailleur hanger. It’s a derailleur hanger that bolts into the horizontal dropouts.

If you want gears, fit an internal hub or gear (Shimano Nexus/Sturmey Archer). It won’t be cheap, although if you know someone who can build wheels they aren’t horrendous.

The hell is the frame? It looks like it was a geared bike that was converted to a single but there’s no derailleur hanger, did they cut it off? I would not put more money into this. Ride it as is and look for a different bike that fits your needs.

Need a better full bike pic. Also if it was a coaster brake rear wheel what will you do to stop now?

There is so much going on here. Bad water bottle placement. What is that guard on the non drive side? Why the tensioner with horizontal dropouts. Im not even sure what I’m looking at.

  6. Shimano TOURNEY TY300 with claw mount is a first thing that comes to mind. It is a low budget solution with decent quality for it’s price. Yes, it’s spec says it’s 6/7sp, but Shimano shares pull ratios for RD across 6-9sp range, so it will work with 8sp shifter.

I would change the axle from QR to regular one with nuts, as it would need to secure both the wheel and derailleur as your drop out doesn’t have a hole for claw mount bolt. However, I think drilling that hole might be an easier solution that can keep QR

If you want to have a higher tier RD, you would need claw hanger adapter for RD of your choice.

There is Sunrace hanger adapter that you can use.
Also use enclosed cam qr skewer, as they are able to tighten up with greater force. You might need to place some spacers on axle if it’s flush or close to flush with dropout.

There are no mounts for a rear brake. The bike previously had a coaster brake I assume. Even if you got gears on it, you are stuck using a low quality derailleur and would have no rear brakes.

You should really consider not doing this. Unless there’s something special about that frame you can get a 90’s MTB type MultiTrack frame for $100 and you’ll save time and money down the road
