Got new handlebars and shortened my shifter cable and housing for them. The cable and housing are pretty new, maybe 450 miles on them. Why is this happening and what did i do wrong?
Shortened shifter cable and housing by about 3 inches, bike is shifting across an 11 speed cassette with 6 clicks now. What the heck is going on?

Clamped the cable at the wrong place? (Need to shift the shifter all the way up before clamping the cable.)
With the Shimano shifters you can double shift w the small paddle. Try pressing small paddle more gently to feel the first ‘click’
You’re likely just pushing past that into the double shift ‘zone’
I think I have been there before. Is the shifter cable attached correctly to the rear derailleur? Position matters somehow. You can put it from below or above. From the video I think it is wrong
Does it happen both ways or just downshifting?
As above, pretty sure you’ve clamped the cable the wrong side of the bolt which effectively changes the pull ratio of the derailleur
You’ve routed the cable in the rear mech, check the tech docs for the exact routing, but it sure isn’t what you’ve done
i had something similar happen to my shifter and found that spraying some wd40 on the ratchet system freed it
