This is so dumb, but I've managed to drop a small piece of plastic into this hole and now it's somewhere in the frame of my bike (Cannondale Habit HT 2). The piece of plastic is actually a piece of the clip/housing that slots in here for the dropper post cable. It had popped out, and I didn't realize it was 2 pieces when I was trying to put it back in, and one piece fell in the hole.

I started mountain biking a few months ago and I've done my best to learn about basic maintenance and repair, but this has me stumped. I've tried turning the bike upside-down and shaking it but no luck so far. I'm not even sure if it's moving towards the hole or if it's stuck on the cable or something in there somewhere. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Remove the fork and get it out thru the head tube. This might be a little advanced for you but watch some videos. It helps to carefully lay out all the parts in the order you disassemble them. Note that this doesn’t work you accidentally loosen the stem bolts and stem cap without supporting the fork and drop everything all over the room haha

Edit: orientation of all the parts in the headset is important as well, keep track of that. Helps to take photos as you disassemble to ensure the everything goes back together the right way.

Depends what type of bottom bracket you have. If it’s a screw in one then I’d remove the cranks and BB and fish it out from down there.

If the BB is press fit then I’d remove the forks.
