Currently looking at a Nishiki Tamarack Comfort for $349 at Dicks Sporting Goods. To be honest I am completely clueless. I will list my wants/needs and if anyone can provide some advice I would be very thankful!
Female – 5’7 – 160 lbs
Budget – Low ($500 at most)
Hybrid Terrain – Road/Dirt trails
Lightweight Frame & Quality Brakes – Steep hills I will have to walk bike at times

Please for the love of god do not buy ant bike from dick’s. When i was a tech there, i was told to halfway assemble the bikes so that they looked fine on the floor. I got in trouble several times for not listening to that and maki g it safe to ride. A good option fo a commuter would be something like a [marin kentfield 1] (https://www.marinbikes.com/bikes/2024-kentfield-1#buy). Another option is to go to a local bike shop that can help you find the right bike and fit for you. And another reminder, dsg is not a bike shop. Things to look for are disc brakes, rack/fender mounts, a threadless stem that cannot adjust and 700c wheels. I would do a good bit of youtubing as well.
at 500 you should get a trek fx 1. would be much better bike
If you must buy a bike from a big box store then get the better value [Costco Infinity](https://www.costco.com/.product.100810217.html) for $199. Height Range: 5 ft .2 in. to 5 ft 11 in. (157.48cm to 175.26cm). It should be better than the Dicks Nishiki.
A bike shipped will require some final assembly and possibly some tuning, maybe around $50 at a local bike shop or look for a freelance bike mechanic.
Or a bike picked up from a big box store will also often require a tune up too.
