Hello all,

I have a 2022 Giant Trance X 1 27.5. Currently it has a SRAM GX Eagle group set. I’m curious to know what you all think about putting a SRAM GX Eagle AXS T-Type group set on the bike? Do you think it’s too much for that bike? Think it’s fine and it’s worth it to put it on? I guess what I’m asking is if you think my bike is too…cheap? Or just not right for that kind of nice hardware. Like is stuff like that only meant for 29ers? Since they are the more popular wheel now? I’m considering either trading for a 29er if I can find someone, or selling and just buying one.

Anyways, thanks yall!

  1. It’s a great bike and I wouldn’t let not having 29” wheels bother you. If you like it keep it and hang some nice parts off of it. You have modern geometry and there is nothing wrong with 27.5.

That being said if your looking at new bikes then I wouldn’t go spending lots on this one.

  2. It’s a pretty nice ride. If you like it and need a new derailleur why not? Just be aware T-Type has a different chain line and you’ll need to replace the whole drivetrain. Also double check that your bike has UDH (Universal derailleur hanger).

No way it’s a very expensive workaround by SRAM for not having a patent on the on/off clutch that shimano has. How you like the GX Eagle? Mine was noisy AF so I modified it with a B Bolt lock and now it’s silent

Why do you want to go to Transmission? How is your current GX not serving you? And is your dropout T-type compatible?

If you want improved shifting swap to a shimano setup. The transmission is slow.

Personal opinion from someone who went from mechanical to AXS (new bike): AXS is not worth the upgrade over mechanical. You gain some ease of shifting with the buttons and ability to power through the shifts, but it’s so much slower to go up and down multiple gears and doesn’t really make the overall ride any better

  7. 27’s are great bikes and that one’s nice. Imo they’re more agile and easier to control.

  8. Im not a fan of electronic shifting in general and think its a huge waste of money.

Shifters shift. It used to be the only reason to buy a $600 derailleur was to save weight. Now Sram has somehow figured out a way to convince you to buy a heavier derailleur for $600…… And will then sell you a $70 extra battery after the first time you forget yours or it dies on the trail.

My XT shifts faster and is like 1/5th the cost. And it has an actual good clutch on it. Yes, there is some adjustments required, but its rare. I have a friend with a XO T-type thats had to be realigned twice in the last year. It took our bike shop 10 minutes each time. But thats how long it takes them to fully adjust a cable system too. She was freaking out because she was afraid she would have to replace a $1500 drivetrain.

So yeah. Cheap has nothing to do with it. Nice has nothing to do with it. Spend money where it counts. Gimmicky bullshit is not worth it.

  9. I ride what I guess people would consider a high end bike but for me I can’t justify the cost as it’s one of the parts most likely to get smashed off.

I like the idea of it, the tech and the cleaner cockpit but it would break my heart if I smashed it to bits
