I was hit from behind by a car. Their insurance company wants me to take this obviously totaled bike to a shop to get an estimate to fix it. There’s no way any shop would even touch this right? Canyon is also direct to customer so it’s not like a shop could replace the frame. Thoughts?

Absolutely. The fix would be replacing the bike entirely. I have written up work orders for customers saying this and charging a diagnostic fee or something similar to have “official” proof of our estimate
I’d check out some carbon repair places, but I can only imagine the best course of action would be to replace the frame.
Repair = New Bike… the frame/bars/wheels are toast
*especially damage around the BB is really bad…
There is no repairing this.
If you have an LBS you trust, I’d go there, and tell them exactly what you wrote here, including the story of you getting hit from behind. Then show them the bike. Make sure they know the person who hit you’s insurance is demanding this, and not that you actually want it repaired instead of replaced. I cannot see them doing anything other than saying it’s totaled.
It’s dead Jim
I think it’s totally done bro, but canyon and rei teamed up so you can buy canyon / get their support via your local REI store.
Send photos to canyon customer service. State same info as posted and ask for an official letter stating the bike is damaged beyond repair. Also ask for the current replacement cost. Provide this letter, original receipt and replacement cost to your insurance company. Let your insurance company deal with theirs.
Glad you’re able to write this up and best of luck.
We are all gonna say “it can’t be fixed” because it can’t.
I would get a shop to put that in writing and also submit the replacement cost to insurance (both items together).
Also don’t accept what they initially offer. Honestly I hate saying it but an attorney might be helpful. If they don’t play ball you’ll have to get one.
Is this CFR?
Replacement frame should be like 2k?
Fixing this at 4 spots and repainting in the west easily as expensive.
at my shop, and most shops i know of, we would gladly write a quote more than the price of a nee one/ write up something saying its totaled. Go ask your LBS, they most likely will do the same
Canyon might be able to offer a crash replacement frame, and then a shop could likely move components. Obviously you would want to go after insurance for labor costs.
That poor thing.
Are you okay from it?
Hmmm, well, when a totalled bike arrived to my shop for this kind of thing, we did create an estimate using the price of replacement for all the parts that were broken plus the labor. Yes, this did include the cost of a new frame, it doesn’t matter that you can get the same frame, what the insurance wants is to see how much they need to pay. The important part on all of this is to not cheap out, you can even get several shops to do the assessment and take the highest back to the insurance, you’ll need that breathing room.
The customer took this estimate back to the insurance, got paid, rescued what he could from the totalled bike and got a new one plus a new rack (because the rack was also damaged beyond repair).
Mind you, the estimate for a “repair” will be higher than the cost of a new bike. You take the money for the repair and put it in for a new bike, easy.
Insurance is jeopardizing your safety. They would have no problem totally out a $70k car for a minor fender bender, this frame is 100% cooked and repair while could be done is risky as its damaged in critical areas.
Can no one drive?
