  1. I like the idea of tubeless, but not the actual installation, maintenance, and fuss of tubeless.

Does it roll better? I just don’t understand why it’s better? Especially if you don’t get flats often

  3. Switched to TPU and got a flat in both tires on ride 2. Went back to tubeless as usual.

Yes. TPU with my GP5000. No flats. However, I rarely get flats so that isn’t an issue. But the TPU gives virtually the same benefits as tubeless in terms of ride quality and watt benefits and I don’t always ride (I do always store my bike lubed and adjusted) . So being able to pump my tires up and go is a huge bonus.

Tubes on my vintage bikes, tubeless on my newer gravel bike. The old bikes very rarely get in the dirt but my gravel bike is 80% in the dirt.

Tubeless is definitely worth it if the trails you ride have goat head thorns. And setup and maintenance is easy now I’m using Fillmore Reserve presta valves.

  6. I switched to TPU a couple years ago. I like the lighter weight and feels like they roll as good as tubeless and less flats than the old tubes. Rene Herse just came out with TPU sealant if flats are an issue. You use a whole lot less than a tubeless setup. I’m considering it because AZ has a lot of goat heads.

I can’t ever see tubeless being worth it for me. It only takes about 5 min to switch tubes and get going again, and given that I only get maybe 1-2 punctures a year going tubeless would be way more hassle than self-sealing punctures are worth to me.

Bar bike – normal tubes I add orange seal to.

Gravel & mountain bike – tubeless with a tpu & plugs in the flat kit.

Tandem – tubeless just because I can.

  9. Are you saying you’ve been over 2 years with no flats while riding tubless? If so, sounds like tubless is working

  10. TPU for the road bike.
Regular tubes for the MTB and all the fun bikes.
Tubeless is in my opinion the option for professionals and hardcore weightfreaks.

  11. Maybe the last flat you had was two years ago because of tubeless?! Personally I run tubeless on anything with big tires and butyl or tpu tubes on anything with small tires.

I’m just running regular tubes, but I have TPU tubes as backup which is great because they fold to 1/3 the size and half the weight of regular tubes. I haven’t had the need to install one yet, they function really well in preventing punctures the same way as packing a raincoat keeps rain away
