Hey cycling enthusiasts,
I recently received this vintage Atala bike as a gift. It was stored in a basement for who knows how long, and I'm not exactly sure how old it is. I'd like to restore it and use it for casual rides around town.
I'm planning to have it restored, but I'm debating whether to replace components like the gearing system and other parts as I believe they have already been replaced by the previous owners. This is where I need your advice:
- Would you recommend keeping it as original as possible with period-correct parts?
- Or would you modernize it with new components while maintaining the vintage look?
I'm torn between preserving its retro charm and making it more practical for everyday use. What would you do with a find like this? Are there certain components that are absolutely worth upgrading?
