Hey folks, I’m planning on doing the Hunt 1000 later this year and looking at ways to lighten my 15.5kg beast of a Surly Ogre. I’m currently running surly moloko bars and I love them for their bag holding capacity and multiple hand positions but they’re typical Surly full cromo steel and weigh around 700g.
Wondering if anyone has any suggestions for lighter alternatives that have a similar degree backsweep (jones bars are too much) and horns for more ‘aero’ positions on long stretches?

Follow up – I’ve seen one report of someone putting bar ends on the inside bend of Ritchey Kyote bars (pic). Anyone have experience with this? Does it handle ok?

Looking at your rig I honestly just don’t think you’d save that much once you rig together something else and the compliance that the surly bars offer will be of better help in the comfort department. If you must change, Velo Orange Crazy Bars would fit the bill. Swapping your saddle, rear cassette or tires (pick one) for lighter alternatives would probably offer the same weight savings as swapping the bars. You could also swap out your metal canteen for an ultralight Nalgene. IMO comfort is king at that distance, but that’s just my two cents.
I know it has nothing to do with it, but where can I get wheels like those?
koga denham bars are about 400 grams and have sweep and horns, velo orange crazy bars are similar and about 550 grams. spending $250 to save a few hundred grams seems nuts to me. you might need a new stem too, to get the geometry right
Might consider a [Bat Wing](https://carsoncitybikeshop.com/hbar-or8-mtb-batwing-aly-31-8x660x25d-bk/), depending what sorts of positions you want to keep.
And I agree, the Moloko is amazingly heavy, often more than twice the weight of other bars. I still have one on my Krampus, but it is definitely overkill at like 770g or whatever.
Edit: question — are your grips backwards intentionally? Whatever works for you, just wondering!
