Yep, it’s done. Looks like the stem bolts were tightened too tight.

To be safe, yeah that should be replaced. Unfortunately I think there’s a lot more forks in use every day with damage just like this than people realize.

It’s crazy how much for every $5k plus bike people, even techs in bike shops, aren’t willing to spend a little extra money for a torque wrench to prevent this kind of damage. You spent all the money on everything else spend a few bucks more for a torque wrench.

It’s crazy that one of the FOUR rules of this sub is “if you have to ask it’s done” but that’s not enforced, posts like this never get removed. I post a single “JFC” on some bullshit how do I mount a tube post and I get the strike? Fuck this sub is awful and useless.

It can most likely be repaired. Got mine repaired with the same issue. Unlimited colors in The Netherlands did a great job fixing it. They cut off the steerer a bit further then where the crack runs. Then insert an aluminum insert (with epoxy). The aluminum insert has a tube attached that will act as your new steerer tube.

The fork is the absolute last place you want a failure so don’t take any risks. Unless you like slowing down your bike with your face.
Any structural issue needs to be checked by experienced eyes in the flesh, unless it’s too obviously broken in your own eyes to bother… either way, don’t rely on a subreddit. That’s why there is a rule about it, it makes sense no?
