Just took delivery of a brand new bike with DT Swiss G1800 wheels. It was supposed to be shipped tubeless ready. Followed the instructions, filled it with sealant, pumped it up and could hear air leaking, pictures are a mix of front and back wheel. Both wheels seem to have this “crack” in the same place.
Anyone seen something like this before?

Pretty sure that’s a manufacturing joint. Not a great looking one, but that’s what it is.
The problem is the sealant shouldn’t get to there. Means there’s a hole in the rim tape.
Cracks generally aren’t perfectly straight. It’s a rim joint. Some are joined more cleanly than others.
The cheap sta-tru rims on my commuter have a pretty noticeable one and I also had some sealant seal up an area of the join, closer to the rim brake track (so not the fault of a poor tape job.)
Is there edge to edge rim tape Installed? These rims are only pinned together and not air tight at the seam as far as I know.
That crack looks like an adjoining seal, just the way they were manufactured. A lot of rims have this. You are probably losing air and sealant through there and probably the spoke holes too due to a bad or non-existing rim tape job. If the rim tape looks solid then check that the valve stem is tight.
If the rim joint is sloppy enough to leak sealant it seems like a good reason to demand warranty replacement.
That’s a manufacturer warranty and I think DT has lifetime warranty on their stuff. I’d just reach out to them with those photos
Put some helicopter tape on those seams or ask for another set. As others have said, that’s a seam not a crack.
It’s not a crack, it’s a seam. Regardless it should not be leaking like that. Ask for replacement rims.
Poor quality control during manufacturing.
For those suggesting wider tape is needed, those are tubeless ready DT wheels that ship with tape installed.
I have numerous DT wheel sets and none have joints that are that sloppy.
OP might consider asking for a replacement wheelset or at least discussing it with whom ever they bought the bike from.
dirty secret is that many alloy tubeless wheels from all kinds of manufacturers have this issue.
I have reached out to Propain, just waiting for them to finish eating their Easter eggs to reply.
I have DT Swiss wheels on my canyon MTB, they were also shipped tubeless ready and have had no issues with them for the last two years.
The NBD buzz was rather let down by this 😞 such a pity because the Terrel is a very nice bike, to look at anyway as I havent been able to take it for a spin 🤪
I’ve had air leaking through that seam once after I mashed the tape trying to install some tires but sealant is something else.
Ask them for a new wheel.
have DTswiss wheels and they have similiar lines. they aren’t as bad but i think it’s just from the building process
Those are pinned joints which are just how they are made(not a problem) and the rim needs to be retaped to stop this happening. Your wheels need a simple trying which is not ideal for a new set but not a problem either: it’s probably under $40 to have both done at a shop and you can ask Dt Swiss to cover that cost as well
That’s pretty crappy looking for DT Swiss. I’ve never seen any of their pinned joint rims in person but i will say that their welded rim joints are almost invisible unless like so many other companies lately the QC has gone downhill. Were they taped with DT Swiss tubeless tape? DT Swiss tape has their logo all over it.
The workmanship appears to be subpar. If it’s brand new, I’m sure the dealer could easily work out a replacement.
Warranty that shit
Are they real DT Swiss? If they are I’m sure they would warranty these. I’d contact them.
Can’t believe there’s people on here saying that it’s in any way acceptable. Dude, these are clearly defective rims. Get replacement.
I’ve been using enve, then chinese nextie and lightbicycle carbon rims and never seem shit like that.
That looks like a factory defect. If you had it shipped contact the seller ASAP
Looks like fakes…
Don’t know how long my ROVAL C38s sat in my LBS before I bought them in 2022 but the tape says ROVAL and is basically DT SWISS tape with ROVAL printed, same tape as DT SWISS because of the 370 hubs, and original tape still installed. No degredation in Mesa Az desert or in the garage where temps stay above 100 during the summer inside the garage.
