It’s been a while guys, and bikes have changed. I have some fancy seat that rises on its own, but this (https://www.trekbikes.com/us/en_US/equipment/cycling-components/bike-seatposts-accessories/bike-seatposts/tranzx-jd-ysp18-dropper-seatpost/p/33208/) doesn’t have a lever on it. I was trying raise the seat slightly and it went all the way up, now I can’t get it to go back down.

How, do I do that? I don’t know why it’s not as simple as pushing down on the seat. This is silly. 😂

  1. How did you raise it? Whatever you did, do it again and press down on the seat at the same time

  2. It is probably a lever on the left side of the handlebars. Push the lever and push the seat down at the same time

Sounds like you’re describing a dropper post. If your bike came stock with it and you have 1x gearing, the shifter on the left may push in to lower the seat when you’re sitting and putting pressure on it, or allow it to raise when you’re not sitting on it.

The purpose of a dropper post is to allow you to get your seat out of the way to stand and peddle for tougher hills or get down low for technical descents.

If it’s not integrated into your left shifter, then there should be a lever on your bars to control it it’ll be connected via a cable.

Follow the cables for your shifters and brakes, and if there’s an extra one, that’s for the dropper seat.

This was new to me recently, I kept seeing mention of it and it took me a while to figure out what the deal was. I’ve had one on a bike and it wasn’t for me, but others swear by them.

  4. The listing says there’s no lever included, so if one wasn’t installed for you by a bike shop, you’ll need to buy one and put it on. The lever goes next to your left grip, and should be positioned so your thumb is naturally pretty close to it. You can check out Park Tool for how to route the cable and install it, or pay a LBS to do it for you.

If the dropper lever is on, you sit on the saddle and use your weight + pushing the lever to make it go back down. Stand on the pedals and press the lever to make it go back up.

  5. If that’s a Roscoe 7, 8, or 9 then there should be a lever on the handlebar connected to the dropper post with a cable. If it’s a Roscoe 6 then it doesn’t come with one stock so you need to buy a lever and route the cable and connect it to the bottom of the dropper tube.

Unfortunately they’re designed to be adjusted on the fly while riding, not set and forget so making them handle adjustable at the base wouldn’t be very useful.
