For those of you who are wondering what impact a new bike will have here are my results. I was riding a used Jamis I’d gotten on FB marketplace. Pretty entry level road bike. Then I got myself a Canyon Endurace and retested my benchmark route. As you can see I was able to shave 2:03 off a 14.5 mile course with a slightly lower heart rate(effort). I’m just blown away at the improvement. So if you’re considering a new bike here’s my anecdotal opinion that it will make a difference.

  1. Which Endurace did you go for? If you throw some good rolling tires on it if its one of the lower versions you will easily shave off more

  2. While this is great to see, there can be a lot of other factors that contribute to differences in speed between two rides. Without actual wattage numbers it is very difficult to make a clean comparison between two sets of data, but if it makes you ride more, you picked a winner.

I lowered my bike weight by 1 pound and Increased my speed by swapping from 45c Terra speeds to 32c gp5000 but I did lose a lot of comfort. I have been riding more pavement lately so it works out but I can’t wait to get my Terra speeds back on there in a couple months and hit some gravel.

  4. I recently upgraded from a 15 year old Giant with Tiagra size 56 to a new 54 with 105. I’ve rode about 500km since I got it and already set 12 new pr’s on my usual routes lol maybe the shiny new bike motives me more. I’m also like 10lbs heavier from winter dirty bulk

I feel like a 2 minute difference on a 1 hour ride isn’t the easiest to compare, could be wind or literally just stopping at more lights

Out of curiosity did you ever take the used bike in for a tune up after buying it?
