  1. Was sailing down the street in a bike lane this evening in sunny Charlottesville, Virginia. I was passing a column of stopped cars when one car decided, without warning, to make a right hand turn onto a side street. I shouted as loud as I could, slammed on the brakes, skidding past the car, knowing that some part of my bike struck it. Came to a stop safely and then noticed that my convertible pannier/backpack was missing. Turns out that the person stopped, pulled off of the road onto the side street, and dragged the backpack underneath their car.

A cautionary tail, but now I need your help

The point of impact between my bike and the car was my convertible 2 Wheel Gear pannier/backpack – my constant companion of the past couple or three years. The impact sheared off the mounting clips, as shown in the photo. I’ve been reasonably happy with this backpack except that it has no reflective details, and some of the interior mesh pockets tend to rip. Also, their customer service gets testy when you point out those two design flaws. 😉

I will be buying a new hybrid pannier/backpack straightaway and I am debating whether to stick with 2 Wheel Gear or go with something else. What are your highly informed recommendations, fellow commuters?

  2. Sorry to hear that happened to you! And sad about your pannier. The only pannier brand I would ever recommend is ortleib. Worth the investment because they last forever. Happy shopping!

  3. You don’t need a new pannier the klickfix pannier mounting system is easily replaceable . You just need to buy a spare part for it online
