There was an old trash bag over the saddle lol. First foray into a full vintage build up. I’ve replaced parts here and there but looking forward to it. Frames pretty rusted but no dents, cracks or scratches. Tires are rotted and chains super dry, but there’s no play in the crank arms and everything moves well. Seat post comes out easy. Going to tear it down tomorrow and grease up – wondering what direction everyone would go in. Any tips to get the rust off?

this ALMOST makes me want to start looking inside dumpsters.
I just finished my build of the same bike and colorway from a buddy whose dad was unloading his barn. Great ride! Just a heads up the 1 1/4” headset can be tricky!
Can you still find biopace chainrings? The middle one is toast
That is a lot of rust. Based on the pictures I would say there is a non-negligible chance it is unsafe.
If anywhere, prayer, and gently forward after trying, really trying, to push a nail through the worst rust spots. If the nail goes through, new frame or fork as the case may be.
Great find!!!
