Found this for sale, ~200$. Hasn't been used for a couple of years, needs adjustments, possibly new wires, but the parts themselves seem to be in pretty good order. Kind of looks perfect for a Ronny Romance campy brifter+shimano XTR x8 type setup? I got an ok hookup with a local repair shop who will help me put for cheap. Am I buying into something that's going to cost me dearly in the close future, or would you go for this? Northern Europe, if that means anything.

These parts are worth more than some Ronny romance copycat build tbh. Also you’d be severely limited on tire size, which is kind of the whole point of his builds. The campy 10s -> Shimano 8s also only works if you’re starting with campy 10s, not 8. You’d have to keep campy to campy. Also, likely an Italian threaded BB. For 200, I’d take it and restore it, service the original components, and have a pretty sick vintage road bike.
Although if you don’t know what you’re looking for you might miss a serious issue, like frame damage or broken shifters, which those 8s campy ones tended to do. Having a shop do all this for you can quickly surpass the worth of something like this, there is no such thing as cheap shop labor, especially full rebuilds
Idk man all I see is a sweet looking roadbike that looks like it wants to go fast. If the shop can service it for you for cheap and the parts are still in good condition than I would keep it as is at least for a while untill you get used to it. Maybe put on some new tyres that are a little wider for more comfort and speed.
The most xbike thing that I would to to a bike like this is add a (full) frame bag and/or a handlebar bag.
If you budget-focused then I would avoid a bike with campy components. Everything, from cables to chains is proprietary and getting harder to find and more expensive to replace.
